How do I find a composer for my feature-doc about Cannabis?

Hello, my name is Dale Beaumont-Brown and I am a documentary filmmaker.

I am about to enter into post-production on a feature-length documentary that I have been working on for 2 1/2 years. My intention is to have a combination of music/songs complemented by an original score.

I've never commissioned anyone to produce an original score for a feature doc before. I am looking for advice on how to achieve this; where to search for musicians/composers, who to talk to, which websites to use. Any personal recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The film is entitled Grassroots: The Cannabis Revolution, you can follow the link to the teaser trailer and social media pages below.

Many thanks,

Dale Beaumont-Brown

A member of my band has been composing scores for films as of late, and he's going to be creating the score for my upcoming short. I can get his email to you, if you're interested? He's quite the musician.

It seems like the Colorado Symphony Orchestra has made some headlines in the cannabis industry:

If you could put something together that would be mutually beneficial, I'd bet they could help you quite a bit.

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to comment thus far. I'll certainly check out all your recommendations.

I've also asked the same question over on the Shooting People forums and got a great response there too.

Please keep your suggestions coming as I'm trying to get a feel for others too whilst also trying to consider costs associated with an original score too. Any ideas on a ballpark figure?

Hey Dale,

I've composed for commercials and short films as well as a few game apps. I just watched your doco trailer, and I feel I can help. Here are some demos in a style similar to what you've used in your trailer (https://soundcloud.com/alexgoldsteinmusic/sets/drama) If you like them, and if you haven't filled the spot yet, feel free to contact me and we can talk about all that other stuff later. Otherwise, best of luck with your film.
Regards,
Alex

Hey Dale,

I'm brand new to the film scoring world and would love to give this a shot! Although I am new to this I have been writing and recording music for a long time and have plenty of experience. I just released my website/portfolio and have plenty of original scores and ready to write. Feel free to get ahold of me and let me know what you think or if your interested in collaborating!

Thanks,

-Steven

I know a composer named Bryan Atkinson who is does extraordinary scores! He is finishing the scores for the second season of a show we are working on. After nearly 20 episodes scored by him I think I can give him a good recommendation. As he is just starting out he is very affordably priced as well.

I love the subject :-) depending on what you are looking for I can do pretty much anything - ranging from soothing orchestral music: https://soundcloud.com/arnold-veeman/lot-kom-aan-in-haven-02?in=arnold-v...

to something uplifting: https://soundcloud.com/arnold-veeman/intro-v04?in=arnold-veeman/sets/mus...

Or something moody with a cool beat (also available without vocals): https://soundcloud.com/arnold-veeman/klaai?in=arnold-veeman/sets/arnold-...

Do you have a synopsys which I can see?

Greetings from HOLLAND :-)

I Compose and i am Jamaican, but it could be a joint effort. I could challenge this with another Composer. I Just realize this post was made months ago but if still up for grabs you can hit me up.
