Matching footage between a Sony a7s II and a Canon 5d Mk III

Hello, has anyone ever matched footage between the two cameras? We are shooting a two day wedding. We already shot the first day only using Sonys on S-Log 2. The second day we will need to use a Canon and a Sony. I am open to shooting in a different color space because we will be in a new location. Thanks in advance!

The Canon 5D Mk3 is the limiting factor, so you will have to down-grade your Sony footage ( reduce the dynamic range, increase noise, etc... ) to get it to match the Canon look.

Maybe they can't afford to.

It is an option, but I would prefer to make it happen without. I guess we shall see!

Are you shooting ML Raw on the 5d? That would make a huge difference and they would match very easily. The hack is simple to install and uninstall, only downside is it eats through cards and the footage needs to be converted to cinema dng so the post process is more time consuming. It is still a very solid camera for anyone who understands dynamic range and 14 bit vs 8.

Unfortunately I don't have the ML on the 5d. I considered doing that for awhile, but like you said it eats through cards. One recommendation I heard was to shoot the a7s without a picture profile, but I am not sure how close that would get the two cameras. I am also okay with the second day looking a little different, because it will be shot in another state.

Whatever you do I suggest strongly to do some testing using different settings and profiles to try match those two cameras and see how play each other in post. I agree that you should degrade your AS7II footage.

Probably get a color chart also. Extremely helpful for matching different cameras and lenses.
