NFS needs a notifications feature

I know this has been posted in the boards before a bunch of times over the years, but it still hasn’t been implemented. And since the last post I found about this is already 8 months old and stale since a week after that, I thought I’d post it again, to see if we could get some feedback on this.

No Film School needs a header bar or something to let us know when someone replies to a board question we post, or a comment we make on an article, maybe even when someone comments on a board post we’re following. It’s such a simple thing, but it would make life a bit easier for the users.
Besides, I’m no expert, but I don’t think it would require much of a redesign of the website’s interface. A simple header bar would do the trick, no?

That’s just my 2 cents. It would be good to get some feedback on this, even if it’s to explain why it’s not implemented yet.

Thanks in advance.

Actually I think they need a decent forum.

Just what I wrote, this is not a forum, it is an extremely limited, probably self made, bulletin board.

There is plenty of good forum software and some of it is open software so it would not cost anything to use.

Ya it is definitely frustrating to not be able to know if someone replies or to follow an ongoing conversation. It becomes difficult to have any kind of meaningful dialogue.

I would like to see the newest posts on the main site. It currently works really strange - it feels really random. Sorting also should be by newest. We really need a good filmmaking forum.

I agree: notifactions are amongst the minimum requirements for a functioning board with conversations.

Thanks Jose,

I JUST responded to this in another thread -- you're absolutely right and it was in our original design spec, but just didn't make it into our launch version. I don't have a timetable but it's coming soon.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I just decided to post this because I know it's been asked a lot before and so far it hasn't been implemented. Glad to know it's coming!

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel why not get a standard open software forum?

+1 for notification, as it would encourage people to engage. Without out it, you post something and may as well forget about it as its hard to follow threads.

Speaking of which, is there a search function for this web site? I see a magnify glass icon in the header, but it doesn't allow me to enter search text anywhere.

You have to click on the "No Film School" text in the upper left-hand corner; after that, you start typing over the text. You'll get results for articles as well as board posts. To see more of one or the other (either more articles or more posts), you have to click on some small text on the right side of the screen that says "+ view all".

I know this has been resolved, but I'd like to put my +1 in for notifications. That being said, I like the simplified aesthetic of the NFS boards; they're easier to browse than standard forums. If there's a way to put some of the features other people are mentioning in without making things quite as complicated as a regular forum, I think it would be nice.

Totally disagree, I find it not easier than forums and I do not find forums complicated at all.
