Scared of Star Wars spoilers

For those of you who are not watching The Force Awakens on its release date (like me) are any of you legitimately afraid that any element of it will be spoiled online? I know I am, considering the massive hype I wouldn't be surprised to see something on facebook or youtube which ruins the whole thing, kind of makes me afraid for that time of the year... Should I be afraid?

Some of my friends have been refusing to watch TFA trailers or TV ads because they want everything to be a complete surprise when they watch it in the movie theater.

Myself, I really don't care because it usually takes me 3-4 viewings to get everything in a movie like TFA, and I will definitely see it in IMAX by mid January.

This is true for some Indie films too. The first time I saw Shane Carruth's "Upstream Color" (2013) I was very confused by the end of it, and it took another 2 screenings for me to finally put all of the pieces together. Shane doesn't explain anything, so you really have to dig to figure some of his story out.

You're not crazy. I'm the same way, as are some of my friends here. In fact, I couldn't see the title or content of your post initially, because I have Unspoiler (a Google Chrome extension) installed to help prevent spoilers!

The closer I get to the date, the more I'm avoiding twitter and facebook feeds. If I get a notification, great. Otherwise, I'm avoiding it. The Unspoiler extension makes it much easier, though, I highly recommend it.

While I understand your thought in this, social media wise, I also find it fantastic that people get so excited so they analyze every single frame of the trailer to figure out what the plot, what I would really love to see is someone like Shane Hurlbit go through the trailers and teasers with someone like Steven Spielberg and break down each shot from the cinematography to the mis en scene of each shot to see if they can find out more than what the fans have already discovered

Whatever happens in it, it'll be safe and predictable, like everything JJ Abrams has ever made. Unfortunately, spoilers aren't even surprising anymore.

The ice planet is a new Death Star, Han Solo dies, and there's a new big baddy. Spoilers. Or not. Who cares?
