Thoughts on my demo reel?

I do a lot of work with local bands in my area, so put together a short demo reel from my recent work with them and just wanted to get some comments and critiques on them.

Be rough, be verbose, whatever, just give me something positive to build off of or negative to work on. Something solid, not just "I liked it, good job", the more specific, the better.

Thanks ahead of time.

Looks good, but I hate seeing "jitter" in any shot. ( that rapid shaking that looks like your shot is "vibrating" ) I even sold my Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 zoom lens because even with the last firmware upgrade it still had "jitter" when shooting handheld. ( great lens, but the "jitter" bugged the crap out of me )

I get that you're after the hand-held "shaky cam" look ( in the non-jitter shots ), but some of it looks a little too "shaky" for me, to the point where I am losing some of the more interesting details in your shots because of the excessive movement of your camera. If it's possible to reduce but not eliminate some of the "shaky cam" I would definitely like your reel better.

Fair enough, thank you for your time.

I would have to agree with the comments on the "shaky cam" factor that is present throughout. That being said, I found quite a few of the shots to be quite attractive, compelling, and thoroughly effective.

I love the cinematic quality in your imagery, it has a great mood and energy.

I agree with the comment about the jitteriness. I would also only include what I feel are the best of the best shots. I figure we only have about 10 seconds of a random viewers attention before they decide to click-away or watch the whole way through.

If your goal is to catch eyes of other indie bands and musicians then this is an effective reel. If the goal to get other types of work then I would vary up the types of shots within it.

A DP posted their reel on these boards and someone gave them some great feedback, something along the lines of "Be sure to include the shots where your vision/lensing helped enhance the story."

Not sure if that essentially applies here, but it helped me to read it.

Jacob, congrats on a new reel! It looks great -- I bet it is better than the old one, yet not as good as your next one ;) Just keep going!!
