99% done with my first short film. What next? Ahhhh

Hi All!

I came to these boards panicked a few months ago as I began editing my first short film. I'm happy to say that I've locked picture and am having it color corrected as we speak. So just a huge thanks to you guys on the boards and on the pod for helping me out with my question.

Here's my new question. What the f do I do once it is finished? I mean, I plan on looking at some film festivals to submit it to, but it can take months to get a response on those usually. Do I submit to a bunch and just hold off on planning any kind of digital release to keep it new and fresh for prospective festivals? What if I wait for months and gets Nos? I plan on working on something as soon as I'm done with the short, but wanted to dedicate some thought into how to properly release a short. Any thoughts would be super appreciated. Thanks guys!

I would go for festivals. Not all take months and months to come back to. If you think it could do well just send it. Check filmfreeway.com and submit. Nothing to loose mate. :)

Agree about getting on FilmFreeway. Look at the various festivals and try to gauge which programs your film might fit into. Be as strategic as possible if you don't know any programmers.
