Best lightweight remote follow focus
I shoot on a Canon 1DC mounted on a Helix Jnr gimbal stabiliser.
I'm finding wireless follow focuses like the Redrock micro or similar to be really awkward and near impossible to mount onto the gimbal in such a way that let's me adjust focus while I shoot.
What I'm looking for is a simple, lightweight system that allows me to adjust focus while operating the gimbal.
I've been doing a lot of research and I've boiled it down to 2 options:
1) The Silencer Pro.
Looks like a great system, perfect for mounting on gimbals. BUT at 4lbs it's just too heavy and at $875 a bit too risky if I decide I don't like it.
2) The Manfrotto SYMPLA HDSLR Clamp-On Remote Control.
It's exactly what I'm looking for. It's simple, it doesn't require a gear to be rail mounted near the lens and it's clamp on design means I can stick on just above the gimbal handle, giving me focusing ability at my fingertips. Seems to have an overshooting issue at high speeds but smooth enough for me on low to medium speeds. Plus at half the price of the silencer it's perfect.
BUT seems that it's only compatible with EOS 1D Mark IV / 5D Mark II / 7D / 60D / 500D / 550D / 600D.
No mention of the 1DC in there.
So can anyone out there help me?
Does anyone know if the Manfrotto remote could be operated on the 1DC's firmware?
Or does anyone have an affordable, lightweight, simple USB remote follow focus that they can suggest?
