What's your gear list? May be your camera is good enough, and instead you need lights, slider/jib, jib motorized kit, lenses, drone, audio recorder, video recorder, storage, editing software, editing hardware, mics, mixer, superclamps, stands, suction cups, rig, website, reel... phew... know what I mean?

kinda agree. I need whole bunch of gears. a7s is good for videos, mark 3 is good for photo and videos. well..currently im using 6D and planning to get Sony camera as my additional. why? because I just love the focus peaking, zebras and tilt screen on Sony. A6000, A7 series and etc. (not that others like GH4 doest have them tho) Canon is lacking video features unless u put magic lantern in it

Currently what the camera market for DSLR/MILC looks like is the A7S and GH4 are top dogs (with probably the Samsung NX1 joining them when it gets released? If the reviews are good). With those two being far ahead of the competition.

The top tier cameras of the rest being:
Panasonic GH3/G6/GM1/GX7, Sony A6000/A5100, Canon 5DmkIII, or Nikon D5200/D5300/D7100/D3300.

With all of those cameras being fairly similar-ish priced to each other, within a few hundred dollars each way. *EXCEPT*.... the Canon 5DmkIII which is the odd one out :-P It is up there in that top tier with the rest of them at that quality level, but at a radically different price level which is much higher than the rest! So no, I couldn't possibly recommend a 5DmkIII for a person starting out for the purpose of filming with.
