Communication

I have trouble communicating my ideas and my vision towards my cast and crew. It's not horrible but it's not great either. What can i do to improve this aspect and therefore improve my film?

There are basic technical terms that are needed on set in order every key member to communicate the same thing. So try reading some books on filmmaking in order to master those terms of shot size (long, medium, CU etc), camera movements (pan, track or dolly etc). You will see that it will become much easier after you get used to it.

I know enough technical terms from class, reading, videos, etc. that the people I usually collaborate with know what I want. I have more trouble talking to actors and trying to get the best out of their performances. I probably should've specificed that. But, I appreciate your willingness to help.

That's the difficult part then! You may want to take some acting lessons or work with a theater group to see how it feels and how they work. But it is different for everyone, even the most well-known directors use different methods and techniques. So the best advice would be to start with great actors. From that point, you may need to do some adjustments or do as little as possible.
