Early Sound Recording Technology

Hi guys, I'm preparing a lesson for my students at college level.

My history is in cinematography so I've covered this part of the lesson, however, I'm looking at Early Sound recorders & ways of recording sound.

Can anyone point me into the direction of Early (like 1950/60) forms of Sound Recording Technology (It can be for TV or for Film)

Any knowledge would be great.
Thanks you lovely bunch.

The nagra came out in 1951!
Was industry standard until, shockingly, the 1990s. I used one last in like 2003. Great recorder.
