[FILMSUMO.com] New Boards & Classifieds site for NFS users

As a longtime NFS user, I'm very thankful for this site... though the boards have some issues. I've taken it upon myself to build a new site FOR NFS users, BY NFS users. Purpose and Features:
- Moderated, active boards
- Classified listings to sell your gear
- Familiar Question & Answer based forum
- EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS!
- Comment and reply to topics
- Proper post upvoting (NO downvoting members)
- Get points for participating (We may enable prizes for points!)
- Networking and share your work
- Complete ability to ACTIVELY add new features quickly as requested.
- No ads
- And no... AF cannot spam it. ; )
[[[ But I NEED YOUR HELP! ]]]
-> Jump over to www.FILMSUMO.com and JOIN FREE
-> We need MODERATORS who want to become active moderating posts and the site. You'll get Editor access. Must show active status on NFS. (Send email to jordaninperson at gmail.com or post private post at FilmSumo.com if interested)
-> Need CONTENT. It's the hardest part of building a community and forums is getting it started... let's start adding content, questions and more to build a site we'll all love and take ownership in.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for NFS for all the constant content... For the Boards, I would love if you'd join me in building a great community of filmmakers in a site that actively grows and improves with any features we want!
Thanks and see you at www.FILMSUMO.com!

Love it! I just introduced myself on the site. I can't figure out how to change my profile picture. Also do you have plans to add a place on the profile to add a bio section as well as social media links? I love finding new people to connect with on Twitter & Instagram. Thanks!

BTW - I just implemented better profiles, fully customizable with links and picture uploads!

Awesome Derek!

Yes, I'd love to have a nice profile page where you can save a new profile picture, add some specifics to your public profile, etc.

For now, we'll build up the introduction thread to have everything in one place. But absolutely, as we grow we can quickly introduce all these features!

Yeah Charles!

Haven't you seen his old school, very technical and skilled wedding vids brah? They're off the chain #sick. Bring a change of underwear if you choose to watch them.

Not meaning to boycot this and change the subject, whilst Ive had my beef with ninja monkey - having read some of his posts over and over again I think he just means best.

The guy has a lot of know how and genuine advice to give, also he is right, it's bloody hard to make a living as a film maker, shooting corporate, stock or weddings is a great earner to keep things a float whilst still practicing your craft.

We do give him a hard time, because he can come across rude, but then again quite a few of us (i have done in the past) respond to him rather rudely, perhaps we should all try to just get a long and build this community further.

Ninja, sincerely - I do look forward to High relief as I said before, and hope hence forth on this forum we discuss further on the topic of film making and learn from one another (meaning everyone from everyone)

I agree, as soon as he stops giving crap to EVERYONE on this forum (except AF) I will respect him for the killer filmmaking that he does. Until then he's a jerk.

I'm just annoyed this forum has turned into "no, you're wrong, X means Y."

We've disagreed on a thread before and I lost my temper because of how you worded something, but it doesn't matter.

As long as we all remember the point of being here, is to learn and grow as a community and as film makers ourselves, and start to treat eachother with some dignity and remember we're all learning and make mistakes, and it's ok to make mistakes on some level.

I do wish you all the best and will keep my eyes open for your feature.

NinjaMonkey and David should totally make-out right now.

haha not a chance.

I'm not trying to put anyone on a pedestal or defend people but this community is great, and the drama and hate (from ALL sides) just needs to cease, if I can provide a middle ground where people (even if it's begrudgingly) will agree to put aside differences, then I'm happy to be that guy.

Just want the community to get along again :) that's all

See guys? All this crap is the reason we need proper boards. The people are asking for it... I'd like to help deliver it.

Jump in everyone, always tough to start a new community and forums, but it's to the benefit of us all. Adding tons of new features as we speak!

Not meaning to go off-topic, but there are already active film fora that are (more or less) moderated and have email notifications like http://www.indietalk.com or http://www.filmmakerforum.org that already exist for over a decade.

Feel free to start your own boards, but maybe it is not neccessary to reinvent the wheel (and start collecting all those 'what camera should I buy topics' all over again :-p )
Besides, there are only so many boards I can keep up with ;-)

Nevertheless, I hope NFS will hurry with features like email notifications.
A more lean approach instead of building until it is completely complete and functional would at least give everyone a sense of progress. In other words: adding features step by step gives out a better message to the users than completely rebuilding the NFS boards in silence.
(Although I must admit I can talk easily from the sideline, but I have no clue how the boards are built and whether or not new features can be added easily or not.)

It is necessary to reinvent the wheel, over & over again. That is called progress.

Reinventing the wheel does not equal progress.
In Dutch it means you have a problem and invent something that already exists, so you have been wasting time and effort on an obvious and existing solution.

Improving or redesigning the wheel is (or can be) progress.
Subtle difference.
Here we have a situation where the desired improvements of NFS take too long to implement: from that perspective the new board is an improvement.
Since the new board (mostly) offers what older existing boards have already been offering, the question arises whether it is progress from that perspective or just the 'reinvention' of what already exists.

Hi Walter -

Certainly the point is not to just have 'another community', it's to form the exact community WE want. I would hope NFS could be that, but it struggles, and it's been years of struggles. I can't much complain without offering a solution, so this is my solution!

I was able to put together a full board site with notifications, and a bunch more features coming soon in just a couple days. I just think we deserve good boards, and I hope many others share my desire.

I totally understand your point of view.
Have you ever visited those other fora?
If so: how does the new board differ?
