Finding short film jobs

Hi there!

I've been an editor for a few years now, and I've been in the documentary genre for most of that time. I love working on docs, but I'm also very interested in working on fiction films. Even if I've edited feature docs, I know that there is no way that I would get hired for a fiction feature at the moment, and I thought the best way to get started in the fiction genre was to start editing short films.

So my question is, where do you guys find short film gigs? I've tried Indeed and Mandy, but I find the quality of films quite low on there. Also, there are so many people competing for those jobs so it seems like it's a slim chance that you'll even get a reply.

I might also add that I'm ready to edit short films either for free or at a much lower rate than I usually do. Provided that the film has a great script.

So yeah, I'd love to hear where everyone finds short film gigs :)

The bulk of short films I work on are old friends from film school, or other people i've met while in the industry.

Start going to local screenings and film events and make friends. Those are the people you are going to want to work with. Making short films are a lot of fun when you do it with people you're really close with.

Thanks for your suggestion Andrew! You're right, I should definitely do that.

I live in Stockholm, Sweden right now. The film community is alright here, not too big but small enough to easily get in touch with people :)
