Follow Focus

Urgent Help:

Please help me...
Am using Black Magic Cinema camera with Canon lens.
Whenever I mark the focus point, next time it changes.
Shooting in MF mode. I don't know what is wrong. Tried with different lenses, the same.

I am not familiar with Canon lenses (presumably E-mount?) - are they electronic? By this I mean there is no direct connection from the focus ring to the lens mechanics; instead the focus ring is an encoder which is used to drive a motor which changes the focus. If this is the case it may be that turning the focus ring faster/slower means that the motor drives faster/slower and therefore further/less far, so the focus point changes even when you are back to the same FF mark point. It may not be this, but it may be. (I use wholly mechanical lenses when setting a repeatable focus point on a shoot.) Alternatively some cameras allow you to set two focus points [near and far] using the camera touchscreen and rack between them when using the lens in auto mode - don't know if the BMCC does this (don't think so).

Thanks for the reply, I believe BMCC does not have this feature of setting focus point. It is all done manually. The Canon lens that I use has EF mount, it the very common photography lens.

It is really frustrating when you set the focus point, and it is out of focus for the retake, the DOP becomes a jackass in front of the client.
