Recording sound using a Røde videomic pro

I own a Sony A7II, Røde Videomic Pro and an iPhone. As someone that knows very little about sound, I'm curious as to how I can get the best quality audio with the equipment I already have. Would I get better audio quality if I ran the Videomic into my iPhone using an adapter, or would I be better off running it directly into the Sony?

It's probably better to run your audio into your camera than record it with your smartphone. The A7II might have better preamps (if they have the same as the A7sII) and also you don't have to sync your audio with your footage later in post.
But if you want to boom your mic it's better to use a external recorder to record sound with. For the Videomic Pro you could use the Zoom H1 (about $100). It's mostly better to have those two systems seperated from each other so you won't be in trouble with your gear if you are on the run.
