Selling my GH2 any regrets?

Hey guys,

I just recently got a A7s and I am thinking about selling my GH2 and two m43 lenses to buy some rigs for the a7s.
Just want to hear your regrets when you had to sell your GH2 as well and even your thoughts on it would be kewl. I know GH2 is a really old camera to be comparing it to the cameras these days but yea.

Thanks in advance

I don't have either of those cameras. However as someone who's sold gear in the past I figured I'd give my opinion. A couple years ago I sold an XL2, it's a miniDV camera that I really had no use for other than capturing old/tape footage with. I never used it and knew it would only depreciate in value. So I sold it. Felt bad because it was the first real camera I ever had. So that emotional tie to it sucked but if I still had it... it would have gotten used maybe a handful of times in the past 4 years. If that.

Next I recently sold a Canon 7D because I picked up a GH4 and like you I wanted the extra money for gear. This one I felt awful before, during and after I sold it. To this day I wish I had just kept it. It's only been about six months but I still wish I had just kept it. I only sold the body and a couple months later the 7D MII came out so I would have gotten less money if I waited. Although the money helped a lot I still wish sometimes that I had kept it. So really if you have that emotionally attachment to it and don't absolutely need the money, I'd say think about keeping it.

There are also three other cameras I sold that I still wish I hadn't. Some were outdated formats but really depending on your feelings toward these items. It's up to you.

I totally understand what you are saying, GH2 is my first "video" camera I got.
All my cameras that was purchased in the past are for stills only and most of them are film so I have so much attachment to them. But anyways being it the first camera I bought just for video and having to get so much memorable footages out of this beast, it has been a real dilemma. Esp with constant price drop of the camera because of the new cameras.
I bought this camera for $450 2 years ago used, it was a really good deal(I think) I guess I got my moneys worth for sure.
Thank you for your thought I appreciate it.

I owned two of them and they were great little beasties for a few years ( especially once the GH2 hacks arrived ), then I upgraded to the GH3, and now the GH4. No regrets selling mine.

If you don't use it now, I'd dump it - GH2 prices have been in a freefall, and dropped nearly $100 every three months for awhile - looks like the prices are below $400 on Ebay now... really need to move the one I have sitting in a box...

It was such a sweet camera for it's time though - still capable of kicking out some REALLY nice stuff! A7s has my interest at the moment though...

I just got my A7s like two weeks ago, so I really haven't had a chance to do any projects yet to see if I actually need a B cam or not. But I really don't need it as a back up for sure because I am not doing anything commercial, just all for my own creative pleasure.

Yea, the price drop is insane it all the new camera's coming out, I bought mine used $450 two years ago.

The IQ of this camera is still so good, I've seen some people complain about the color of the GH2(maybe handful) but I actually love the color it produces, it's so beautiful!.

Will let you guys know what I decided to do.

Thank you.

I have one I barely use but I still keep is as a beater/crash cam. When I need to do a project where I suspect their will be possible damage I still use it, or when friends want to lend a camera.

I sold my GH2 body for 250 USD and bought a new GH3 body for 569 USD when there was a special offer on eBay in December 2014. Best swap ever. The GH3 is a great B-cam. But even then, I had such fond memories of the footage I had shot with the GH2, that I did consider keeping it and putting it in my "camera museum".

I upgraded to the GH4 and was thinking of selling my GH2 as well. However, I decided to keep it as a B-Cam. This has been really helpful for event videography since it is always nice to have multiple angles.

So for my two cents, keep the GH2 and the two lenses for this reason unless you know for a fact that you will not need a B-Camera.

I still shoot weddings with my hacked GH2. With the right lenses and image settings it puts out some beautiful 1080p. Probably going to get a GH4 soon now that the used prices are coming down, mostly for the 1080 60p and amazing battery life.

Totally agree, I loved the colors that my GH2 produces. Esp. on ISO 320 the image looks so clean. I have the A7s and it took me awhile to learn grading slog to look good. But well worth the dynamic range if needed. And the low light is a given.

Though GH2 B/W high ISO is insane as well.

I got my GH4 new for $999.99, the only "catch" being it's an international version with no warranty.

I've just bought a GH2 mint with 14-42 lenses for 225 euros. Upgrade from Canon 600D, that GH2 has some organic look that I'm in love with :D
