Honestly, the less you show, the more effective it is. It can seem forced if you seem to be shooting it differently than the entire film. If you want a good film to take a look at in terms of well shot sex scenes, check out Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac". It's not for everyone, like most of his work, but it might be great for you.

Certainly basic instinct is another good one to study, they have the story board for the sex scene in the extras. I like to watch movies on the computer and do screen captures of interesting shots. The big thing and is true for every scene, what is the motivation and how does the sex move the story forward? The lighting should reflect the time of day and the mood. So I would start by lighting the room, how will you frame the action with composition and lighting, there are lots of different emotions, for example I would take once approach if it is about passionate intensity, think of the Michael Douglas and Jeanne Tripplehorn scene in Basic Instinct or some more romantic like "Somewhere in time" so the sex scene support the movie and integrates with it, not sticking out like a sore thumb
