Using Meme's and Gifs and the issue of Copyright and Fair Use
My first ever post in NFS. Felt like I should acknowledge that...
Anyway, I'm currently in pre-production for a feature film and one scene in particular may have to get cut before it's even shot as it involves two of the main characters conversing through meme's via their phones a la REDDIT or 4CHAN behavior. It's a funny scene that does a good job displaying the two characters personalities and dynamic but we are concerned how this might impact the films post life when it comes to Copyright.
We've spoken to a few lawyers but they are not in entertainment and do not seems to have a solid answer beyond "you might get hit for that".
I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this issue.
