What's the best digital platform available for indie filmmakers?

I've used a lot of digital platforms and recently settled with because they only take a 6% cut of your revenue. What are your experiences with your own feature films on similar platforms? Which one is the best? Here's my Reelhouse profile for those interested.

Hey Byron,

I've been constantly wondering the same thing, and there's so many options out there it's hard to weigh all the pros and cons. Though by now this post is a little out-dated, I've written a round-up of many of the major players in this space:

This aside though, as of September 2014, I think the top 3 options in the direct-distribution space are Gumroad, VHX & Yekra. Hope this helps.

Hey Micah,

I actually just finished reading all the posts about your film Menthol from festivals to release. It was really great to read about your insight and advice as I have gone through the same journey with my first film "Bang Bang", and now embark on that same journey again with a new feature, which I will be release on at the same time as my festival premiere in NYC. I'm going to watch your film on RH this weekend. Cheers!

Amazon's createspace is worth looking at. I haven't used it yet, but I know folks that have. With the Amazon backing, it may prove a viable port for folks unaccustomed to our indie friends at VHX, Reelhouse, etc.

There are so many great platform solutions... that's not really the challenge anymore... It's still going to come back to HOW do you get people to find your film... and then be delighted by it... and then grow that.
