EIZO's New ColorEdge 4K and HDR Monitors Have Built-In Calibration

If you're on the hunt for a fresh 4K or HDR monitor for your on-set or post production workflows, EIZO has made available 2 new monitors. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 is a 31.1-inch 4K DCI monitor for reference HDR and the ColorEdge CS2740 is a 27-inch, 4K UHD monitor with HDMI connectivity. Both come with built-in calibration to keep color accurate. 

ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146

The 31.1-inch 4K DCI (4096 x 2160) HDR reference monitor is ideal for post production color grading. It's an update to the Prominence CG314 and has a built-in calibration sensor. It supports 2 gamma curves, hybrid log-gamma (HLG), and perceptual quantization (PQ). HLG is compatible with SDR displays, while PQ is for films and video content. Both gamma curves have been standardized as ITU-R BT.2100 and the PQ curve meets SMPTE ST-2084 standards. 

The monitor can reproduce 99% of DCI-P3 standard and offers a 10-bit simultaneous display from a 24-bit look-up-table (LUT). It can achieve 1000 cd/m2 (typical) high brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. There are several modes available including BT.2020, BT.709, PQ BT.2100, and HLG BT.2100. 

To maintain color accuracy, the monitor combines hardware and software to keep things in control. A built-in temperature sensor can measure the temp inside the monitor and surrounding areas. Its ColorNavigator software helps keep colors accurate. 

For connections, there's a single 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI port, and dual- or quad-Link 3G/HD-SDI ports as well a DisplayPort and HDMI inputs. Four USB downstream connections and one upstream are also available. The monitor comes equipped with 4K zoom, luminance warning, BT.709 out of gamut alert, flicker-free viewing, adjustable dials, and comes with a hood and carrying handle.  

ColorEdge CS2740

The 27-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) monitor is an update to the CS2730 and includes the built-in calibration technology. The 16-bit 350 nit monitor supports 10-bit display and has a typical Adobe RGB color gamut found on most monitors. There are no SDI inputs or a HDMI output, but it does have a single HDMI input, a DisplayPort input, 2 USB Type-A downstreams, one USB-B downstream and a USB Type-C upstream. It supports refresh rates as low as 23 Hz which is useful when monitoring video. 

Color accuracy can be maintained one of 2 ways. Through Quick Color Match and ColorNavigator. Quick Color Match, as the name suggests, automatically adjusts the gain, brightness, gamma, and color space (Adobe RGB). It's best used when printing to an Adobe, Canon, or Epson printer. Settings can be further adjusted manually. With ColorNavigator, you can calibrate and fine-tune the monitor in the Adobe RGB color space and save different presets to switch back and forth when necessary.
