Is the Fujifilm X-T5 a Hybrid Shooter's Dream Come True?
Fujifilm has been on fire this year, and now its most popular platform gets an update.
Fujifilm has been going for it this year with a long refresh of the X-H lineup with the new X-H2 and X-H2S (S for speed), which offer video shooters extremely flexible high-resolution options where you get the wonder of Fuji's color science and lens expertise in an affordable, compact package.
But if you wanted something even more affordable and even more compact, the XT lineup has been a huge hit for Fuji. Walk around NAB, and you'll see a lot of X-T3 and X-T4 units around. They're a solid choice due to their combination of great autofocus, image stabilization, and that Fuji color science. Now that is getting an update with the Fujifilm X-T5.

Is it as good as the hype suggests? Should photographers and hybrid shooters be jumping to upgrade? Let's look at what Fuji is bringing to the table.
Fujifilm X-T5
While the X-H series had to wait a long time for a refresh, the XT lineup is on a pretty strict schedule. Fuji has kept it up with the X-T5 coming out two years after the X-T4, which was two years after the X-T3.
While the X-H2 and X-H2s cameras have focused more on video shooters, the X-T5 still has video features that should be appealing to the vast majority of customers. Supporting F-Log2 with 13+ stops of latitude, the X-T5 can shoot up to 10-bit or 8-bit video up to 6.2K/30p. It also supports ProRes RAW to an Atomos recorder or Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) to a Blackmagic Video Assist. On paper, it's a powerhouse in a tiny package.
A Lens to Match
Fuji is also rolling out a new X-mount lens, the Fujinon XF30mm Macro.
King of the Hill
With the range of APS-C options from Fuji, it seems (at least to us) that the longtime camera manufacturer is keeping a firm grip on its position as king of APS-C.
Sure, there are other great cameras in this format, like the Sony FX30 and BMPCC 6K G2, but they are mostly made for video and cinema work. For photography and hybrid workflows, there isn't really anything like the Fuji cameras on the market.
And for the price, the Fujifilm X-T5 is a bargain, especially for what you get.
The X-T5 is available now for $1,699, and the XF30mm will be $599.
