The Israel-born star was trending on Twitter on Wednesday after posting this:

Gadot’s peaceful and respectful sentiment might sound good-natured, but some took issue with the actress using the term “neighbors” towards the two countries in the conflict and for supporting Israel at all. Critics accuse her of being a “propaganda” tool for Israel given her time serving two years as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (which is mandatory for all Israeli citizens over the age of 18).

Comments grew so violent toward Gadot and her statement that she eventually disabled her comment section while still leaving her post up.

Writer and activist Aaron Vallely wrote, “Gal Gadot’s statement is far worse than that tone-deaf ‘Imagine’ video from last year. ‘Free and Safe.' The same state that is perpetrating military occupations, land theft, and ethnic cleansing against the people of Palestine.”

Political reporter, Ben Jacobs, noted that “trending” is “an interesting euphemism on Twitter’s part for [Gadot] being bombarded with vile and anti-Semitic attacks online.”

Others more directly stuck up for Gadot, such as Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who tweeted, “God bless Gal Gadot.”

What do you think about Gadot’s statement on the Israel-Palestine violence? Is she in the right or the wrong? Let us know in the comments.
