The blood flows freely and effortlessly in the newly released red band trailer for Hellboy, a new film adaptation based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola.

Previously represented on screen by Ron Perlman (as directed by Guillermo Del Toro), the character of Hellboy gets another go at a successful movie adaption with this latest Lionsgate release. R-rated (and apparently proud of it), this new edition is heavy on gore and four-letter words, as well as some hints of nudity for those who weren't satisfied by the gore and four-letter words.

As played by David Harbour (Stranger Things) underneath tons of red makeup, this iteration of the Hellboy is a stand-alone, occasionally sophomoric take for adults only. He's funny, goofy, and not too fond of his archnemesis, Nimue the Queen of Blood (played by Milla Jovovich). Sophie Okonedo, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Thomas Haden Church round out the cast.

Of note is that this reboot was directed by Neil Marshall, the talented English filmmaker who first rose to prominence for his feature films Dog Soldiers and The Descent. More recently identified for directing several episodes of Game of Thrones, Marshall has carved out a niche for being a genre director with smarts, a brutal visualist who makes the bloodshed count.

Hellboy is released in theaters on April 12th, 2019.
