According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Apple is planning on releasing not one, but three new iPhones sometime later this year. While that might be big news for Apple fanboys and Apple haters alike (aka Android users), there’s also some interesting developments which filmmakers might want to take notice of.

This new “triple-camera system” in particular promises the most intrigue as it definitely looks like Apple is looking to push its video capabilities to new levels. Whether that means better 4K (or 8K - because why the heck not) or maybe even 3D to compete with RED Hydrogen One.

Apple’s Triple-Camera System

From leaked renders produced by OnLeaks, this triple-camera system is still a prototype and subject to change before a rumored launch sometime in September 2019.

To their credit, Apple has always aimed to keep videographers and filmmakers in mind with their smartphones’ video capabilities over the years.

From the full court press of coverage of the indie hit Tangerine being shot on iPhone 5s, to their efforts to fund and help filmmakers produce documentary projects on their latest iPhone XS, it’s very likely Apple will begin teasing just what this new triple-camera system will truly be capable of for films and video here soon.
