Paul Thomas Anderson movies feel like cultural events. We only get them every few years, but they always have an impact. Now, it appears Anderson is taking us to a very personal place: A California high school in the 1970s. The movie will focus on a high school student who is also a successful child actor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR also reports that casting is underway for the untitled feature's main role, and that the movie will feature a supporting cast with interlacing storylines, a la PTA's Magnolia and Boogie Nights. The movie was listed on the California Film Commission's list of 13 films shooting in the state next year, with a projected production start date of February 2020.

That's not a lot of details but it definitely is intriguing. We've seen PTA tackle child celebrities before in Magnolia -- with the young and troubled wiz kid on a trivia show. It will be interesting to see if there's any crossover between the tales or this will be a completely new idea.

More to come when we have it...
