Which Tarantino characters would you like to see paired up in a crossover movie? What shared universe movie would you love to make?
Thanks to Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood arriving in theaters soon, we now know more details about one movie fans will (likely) never see: The long-rumored Vega Brothers team-up.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker has been doing the press rounds lately promoting his latest film, where the director recently chatted about his long-rumored Pulp Fiction prequel centered on the Vega siblings: Vincent (John Travolta) and Vic (Reservoir Dogs' Michael Madsen). In the late '90s, QT's fans were on the verge of obsessive behavior about seeing the then-novel idea of a crossover team-up between the two brothers but, unfortunately, Double V Vega (the official title) never came to be. Here's why:
“The only thing I did know was the premise,” Tarantino revealed to CinemaBlend. “It would’ve taken place in Amsterdam, during the time Vincent was in Amsterdam." (What we wouldn't give to see the origins of the "Royale with Cheese" story.)
“He was running some club for Marsellus Wallace [Ving Rhames] in Amsterdam, [Vincent] was there for a couple years. At some point during his two years spent running that club, Vic shows up to visit him and it would’ve been their weekend. Exactly what happened to them or what trouble they got into I never took it that far.”
It's too bad Tarantino didn't get past writing the spine of the story, which was clearly ahead of its time given the current popularity of shared universes. At the same time, as great as it would be to live in a world where Double V exists, we likely wouldn't have gotten the movies Tarantino did flesh out instead: His underrated masterpiece Jackie Brown and both volumes of Kill Bill.
While the filmmaker didn't say the project was dead like Zedd (sorry not sorry), it's highly unlikely his dance card has room to resurrect it. But here's hoping maybe a streaming service can someday help bring the Vega boys back.
