Designed for music, videography, and just about any other audio recording need, the Reclouder "personal hybrid audio recorder" will capture 2-channel stereo sound from either a standard dual XLR audio socket or through a more compact 3.5mm minijack compatible microphone.

The device then promises to automatically attach to an open WiFi signal and back up your audio recordings to the cloud so that audio post-production can begin while you're still on set. And at under $200, it could be a great bargain for a one man crew or runners and gunners.

"Reclouder is the easiest way to store, sync and share audio recordings. It combines today’s technologies and your traditional workflow ... with the current trends of 5G, cloud services and the internet of things, Reclouder offers you a future-ready approach to recording audio." - ReClouder Blog

Capable of recording 2-channel stereo lossless audio, the Reclouder is laid out to be both easy to read and to record. It has a huge amber recording button to get started, plus an LED array to see your audio activity while recording. Users can record via standard XLR/TRS mic jacks or via 3.5mm TRS and connects to your camera, mixing board or mobile device.

Through Bluetooth networking, an audio recording network can be created by syncing an unlimited number of Reclouders, which can be linked and then the master Reclouder will be controlled through the Reclouder mobile app as well as archived to each Reclouder's on-board SD card. Then, when the master audio recorder is within range of a WiFi network, Reclouder can attach and backup all of your audio recordings directly to the cloud.

From the Reclouder personalized cloud service, the audio can be shared with other team members who can then begin audio mixing and sweetening while the recording is still happening on location. The sound session files will be compatible with most Digital Audio Workstations and will promise to simplify and streamline the audio production process.

So while it may seem limited with dual-channel stereo, the ability to sync via Bluetooth provides for genlocked multitrack audio recording from a variety of recording sources. That's great for a live performance, as well as recording on a set that requires a multicamera setup. But as one analyst noted, the Reclouder designers opted for the old MicroUSB port for power recording and connection, rather than the current trend of USB-C. Had they gone with a Type C connector, the options of opening up USB4 and Thunderbolt would've been evident. Then again, their focus is on wireless connectivity, not linking to your desktop. So a MicroUSB for power, while not ideal, is a low priced connection.

The Reclouder is currently available for pre-order for $129Credit: Reclouder

Reclouder plans to be sold for an MSRP of $199, which is a very competitive price, but with plans for a crowdfunding campaign in the works, the creators of the device are offering an early bird discount for users who want to pre-order it. Users have to put down a $10 fee to hold their place, and when the campaign launches, back it with another $119. So the early adopters that support the Reclouder campaign will get the audio device for $129 total. A great deal.
