In the wake of the pandemic, hundreds of companies stepped up to offer support by giving those working at home free trials to software, helping educators teach in virtual environments, or deferring costs for students

Netflix and Sony announced each would setup $100 million relief funds to help out of work filmmakers. Netflix has already started to disperse its funds, and now, Sony has identified multiple creative organizations to receive relief.

Sony established its relief fund to impact the medical, education, and creative communities. The company has already given $10 million to frontline medical workers and first responders to fight the virus.

Today, further donations will be distributed to the International Cinematographers Guild, including ICG Local 600, Local 667, Local 669, and Local 671 in Canada. The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), Canadian Society of Cinematographers, and the Sports Video Group will also receive support. Additionally, Sony will provide financial relief to Sports Video Group Europe, IMAGO, and Japan Society of Cinematographers reaching a global scale.

The relief effort will ease the financial burden for cinematographers, camera operators, camera assistants, digital imaging technicians, and many industry other workers who create movies, television, and sports content. Sony did not disclose how much each organization received, but it did highlight that it was only the first round of funding. Other creative communities are sure to follow.

If you are a member of one of the organizations receiving funds, contact them directly to find out how you can qualify for relief.
