Sony has issued a free Lens Check and Repair Program for its 16-35mm F2.8 GM lens (SEL1635GM) which may cause cameras to stop working. According to the alert, cameras may fail to operate and/or the rear screen of the camera may not function correctly when the lens is attached.

The alert does not specify if there are specific cameras that caused this issue or how the issue was identified.

As reported by PetaPixel, the lens advisory was originally issued for users in Japan but the alert has since shown up on the U.S. support site.

If your lens is affected, Sony will repair the lens for free (and the program will be available until March 31st, 2023).

You can check to see if your lens needs repair by heading to the SEL1635GM Lens Check and Repair Program page and entering your Serial Number. Affected lenses will have serial numbers between 1800502 and 1823192.
