After years of rumors, leaks, questions, and complaints, Sony has officially confirmed Tuesday, July 28 at 10 EDT / 7 PDT will be the launch day for the much talked about a7S III

When the Sony a7S II arrived five years ago, it impressed videographers and still shooters alike. Since the rollout of the a7 III and the a7R IV, the Sony a7S III hype train has been steady. Even with rumors of what it could potentially feature, it's not exactly known for sure. What we do know comes from an interview with Sony's Kenji Tanaka, who it will include 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, and that RAW recording is a consideration. Tanaka also pointed out the reclassification of the 'S', saying it now stands for 'supreme' which alludes to the improved image quality "from having really big pixels."

The a7S III will face stiff competition. Panasonic has its LUMIX DC-S1H, Fujifilm already released its XT-4, Canon announced the R5 and R6, Sigma has the fp, and while not the same target, it needs to fair well against the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K. Speaking of Blackmagic, the company just announced the URSA Mini Pro 12K.

However it shakes out, let's hope the wait for the a7S III is worth it. What are you wanting to see on the a7S III? Tell us in the comments below.
