The indie film community suffered a major blow after the cancelation of SXSW 2020. Hundreds of filmmakers, who worked so hard to get into one of the biggest film festivals in the world, wouldn't see their films screened thanks to the COVID-19 crisis.

However, Oscilloscope Laboratories and Mailchimp have partnered with SXSW to give official short film selections "a digital home", allowing anyone with an internet connection and a love of cinema to watch them for free online.

According to Deadline, today marks the launch Support the Shorts, a new streaming event that allows audiences to view 75 of these SXSW 2020 shorts on the Mailchimp Presents platform for free. This includes narrative, documentary, animated, and Midnight films, Grand Jury Prize-winning films, like Just Hold OnNo Crying at the Dinner Table, and Regret, as well as films that received Special Jury Recognition.

This new streaming event gives film-goers like you a great way to come alongside these filmmakers and their work. For many, SXSW 2020 was their chance to give their films an audience, to make some important connections, and even watch their filmmaking career take off. Now that the coronavirus has taken those opportunities away, it's up to the community to come together in support of these talented folks.

From the streamer, "While we can’t replace the camaraderie of the SXSW festival, watching these films is a way to support the artists you love and connect to the world around you, during a time when we could all use a little more connection."

Head on over to Mailchimp Presents to watch the fantastic SXSW 2020 slate of short films.
