Article Comment – Due to Recent Attacks, Paris is Getting Tougher on Action Scene Permits

since very long time ago we are supposed to have permission from both City Hall and Prefecture de Paris..nothing changed.
I dont think this will happen for any long time..
Especially shooting action movies always requires closing the street, and since its too hard and expensice to close a street in Paris many filmmakers try to manipulate and shoot in some outside streets close to paris...
but is it end for action scenes? 100% NO. That is not possible without any doubt.
Police commander Sylvie Barnaud said that the Prefecture de Paris, for a temporary period at least, will not issue permits for action sequences.
Olivier-Rene Veillon, prexy of the Ile de France Film Commission, said that he was unperturbed by the ban and did not expect it to have any long-term effect.
Franck Priot, COO of Film France, also emphasized to Variety that Paris continues to be an extremely safe place to shoot and that the city’s agencies are fully committed to making miracles happen in terms of foreign productions.

Boards Comment – New blog post - 10 Steps To Make A Feature

nice article, but strange that it is not written on chronological order, for example he put the "rewrite" level after the castings and budget...(Yes I know he did put the pitching and the writing the story before that)..
However, rewriting the story and giving the writing time The most of what you can give, will save you lot of time and will open for you as a starter more opprtunities in regards of budget and casting...(the producers or whoever want to help a starter will hardly give time to read one time the script) so its way much better opprtunities u can get when you really Lock the script. Make the best out of it.
Cheers my friend

Boards Comment – Feeling very helpless and depress

there are different solutions but each of them has its own risk.
for example you can shoot outside in a small hidden camera (If you are lucky to buy it on internet, I dont know if thats possible in your country) this cameras comes in a tiny size, some of them like a hand watch...
but the problem of shooting with hidden cameras in dangerous places is that it may cause many risks for your life. Especially if you got caught by Taliban for example. U need millions of years to convince them that you are not spying on their locations..
However the only available solution that I can see for your situation, is using hidden camera for shooting panorama shots only for exteriors..(outdoors)..without giving much attention to what you are shooting with (so no need for someone to stand in front your camera and talk)..you can make a voice over for that person and in the editing u just put his sound on the shots u shot outside...
example of hidden cameras nowadays is just like using your phone...
you can shoot photos as well, and find nice voice over lines to explain and go further in the story of your documentay.
and when it is too much dangerous for shooting (photos and videos) you can record sound for the action that takes place...and you can find creative way of making that sound visually interesting by other videos or photos that u choose..
filmmaking is about creativity..in the hard situation u live in You will be able to come out with creative ideas that many others who dont live you situation can't come up with. And thats what will make your film interesting and hopefully screened in Tv channels and even get selected to film festivals...
each filmmaker has his own ID. and the place where you live in will give you your own ID and you will be able to pass these obstacles by using your own creativity. you will be unique and different from others for the unique stories that others cant tell. So I hope that makes sense for you and can increase your confidence and make u more positive..
cheers

Article Comment – How the Cinematography of 'Drive' Utilized Quadrants for 'Tightly Composed & Weirdly Unpredictable' Frames

"every shot is a decision, if it didn't advance the story then it should not be on your shot-list"..
The shot (framing), the movement of the shot and the style of both the framing and light are all the most important elements to recognize and honor the "Film Cinematographer"...
It should all relate to the story, and that what made the work of the "Director of Photography" Creative and Unique...

Article Comment – The Feature Film That Blew Everyone Away at Sundance Was Shot on an iPhone 5s

Hi P. Dawg..
The name film directors that I talked about are not old and they are not dying out at all. In contrast they are actually the young leading directors of Hollywood...
and of course with my review I do not mean at all ignoring the importance of the technical side (I died learning and mastering the technical side and I achieved what I want)..However, I am addressing the critic to the ambitious (who want to be filmmakers) outhere who are giving 99% of their time comparing cameras, sliders, 5K vs maybe 10k resolution..and at the end they don't give enough time to the story.
So The directing become dead at the end. No Matter What God Knows Technical Side could Achieve to any film...
Want wisdom? Robert Rodriguez put it in one line:
"Part of what makes a person creative is his lack of emphasis on things technical".
Cheers!
