I make a living by making websites, but am learning the trade of filmmaking.
I would say make sure you can see your screen outside. I was able to get a removable 3-sided "shade" to better see. Do you have a screen to limit the natural light if needed (you mention outdoor)? I'm assuming you have all the SD cards, batteries, chargers (car chargers), gaffers tape, sandbags for light, etc already included.
You say subject matter, I hear 'audience'. Festivals is one thing. But if you want eyes on it, aren't there facebook groups, community groups, etc you can reach out to that might like to show their communities your video? Are you purposely not making it public b/c of festivals? Maybe you can do a 1 minute trailer?
I've heard the same complaint about website designers (industry I work in). There are a ton of bad website makers out there. But where I work, we ignore (sometimes laugh) at bad ones and move on with the next awesome website we're working on. There is money in filmmaking. Tough competition, but there's money.
Thanks for posting.
Ads auto playing with sound. Closing this page after this comment. Don't want to keep hearing 2 seconds at a time of that ad as it keeps restarting.
Hard to watch on your site with your auto playing with audio ads blaring through after telling it to pause 3 times.
