Dunno if this is great advice or not but...don't listen to anyone when they say you "can't" or "shouldn't". Doing what I knew would work or look good despite everyone saying it wouldn't is why I have a career as a DoP. So go with your gut.
There is no reason to buy a RED Epic or ANYTHING that expensive. People will tell you up and down (because they have no concept of money) that you should. And that everything else is inferior. Take a look at two cameras: The Panasonic GH4 and the Sony A7s. Cheap cameras, great look. Invest in lenses and lighting/steadicams/dollies/decent editing software instead.
