Wow, thanks for such an honest and detailed response!
Jason, great article! I'm curious: you mentioned interning and all that, as well as getting your big break with Shovel Buddies via the Blacklist. Were both of these things happening concurrently, or did one lead to the other? I'd love to hear more about how each of those two aspects of your career played off and impacted the other. Was it Shovel Buddies that got you into the writers' rooms, or was it what you gleaned from those experiences that empowered you to write your own spec, or was it something else entirely?
Looking forward to the continued posts!
Curious to hear from someone who has significant experience with PhraseFind - how well does it work?
It's a great concept, I just can't think of a single situation where I'd be comfortable recording without actively monitoring. Level control is one thing, but with lav mics there are SO often issues like clothes rubbing, wind noise, hands touching around the mic etc. that are impossible to catch without actively monitoring, and not finding out about those issues until the edit can be enormously problematic.
"I can tell you that it may very well revolutionize the way we think about storytelling."
Go ahead and tell us a story, and we'll see if it worked :)
I don't disagree that this lens is going to be plenty adequate for run-and-gun work, live events etc., I'm just saying it's unfortunate that it's fixed to the camera. Making it removable would have made this a much more versatile piece of equipment. Please, ship it with that lens–just let me take it off if I want to!
