Cyril Bassil
Producer, Director, Writer and Actor
Cyril Bassil is an award-winning Lebanese producer, director, screenwriter and actor.
At the age of 12, Cyril started his acting career working with theatre directors such as Michele Malek and Betty Taoutel, performing plays between Lebanon and France.
In 2007, Cyril enrolled at Saint Joseph University to pursue his bachelor in audiovisual. In parallel to his studies, Cyril co-wrote and acted in Avant-Garde a theatre play directed by Morgane Gauvin, which they performed in sold out venues
and theatres in Beirut. That same year, Cyril acted in his first feature film, A play entitled sehnsucht directed by Roy Badran. This film remains the only experimental film in the Middle East and is now gaining a cult following in art house theatres worldwide.
In 2009, Cyril received the Fusion Arts Exchange program from the American Embassy in Lebanon and pursued acting, writing and directing classes at the University of Southern California. The summer program included participating in Master classes given by Jeremy Kagan and Paul Wolff.
In 2014, Cyril released his first short film Bang Bang, which went on to screen at more than 10 International Film Festivals.
In 2015, Cyril received the prestigious Fulbright scholarship and went on to pursue his MFA in cinema directing at Columbia College Chicago. In parallel Cyril worked as a script consultant on features films directed by Terry Gilliam, Robert De Niro and others.
Cyril is currently in post-production on BLUSH, a feature film shot in Chicago, which he co-wrote, produced and is staring in. Cyril is also directing a feature documentary about underrepresented communities at the Lebanese frontier.
I grew up watching Sound of music and Mary Poppins, so I guess the utter joy it brought to me made me fall in love with film and then filmmaking. Adding to it, the strength it has in bringing to the forefront people, like me, from unrepresented communities.
They are absolutely magical ! Victor Victoria is also wonderful, good musicals are very uplifting and inspiring.
