So I went through the torture of trying to find a go to lens for doc work with the A7sII and I landed on the Sigma 24-105mm. Here's a quick pro/con list of the lenses I tried before the Sigma:
Canon 24-105mm f/4- Great cheap lens with IS, but old and not as sharp as the Sigma.
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8- Sharpish but no IS and still expensive.
Sony 24-70mm f/4- Native and all the benefits of IS but terrible focusing ability in manual and expensive.
Sony 24-70mm f/2.8- Native and fast but no IS and expensive.
Sony 28-135mm f/4- Native cine zoom but not sharp and really expensive.
The Sigma is heavier than the Canon f/4 and not as sharp Sony 24-70mm f/2.8.
But, the IS works well, manual focus ring feels nice in your hand and the lens costs $900 ($1100 with the adapter). Sigma wins IMO and I've been very happy with the results. I wouldn't use this lens on a gimbal but you'll be fine for all tripod and handheld work. Also, get the lens adapter and the dock so you can update the firmware on the lens itself.
