Don't know why everyone's hating on "The Garden" so much - I thought it was hilarious. Best comedy of the year.
Promise I'm not bashing this amazing visual artist (he's clearly talented), but a simple mashup of his shots does not explain why he's one of the best. A video essay, like from Every Frame a Painting, or Brows Held High, or any kind of analysis would be welcome, especially since so much of what we see on screen is at the discretion of the director.
I wish all film commentaries were at least this good. So often I'm left wondering if anyone even cared about it.
I just hope this doesn't turn into the aerial version of "internet fast lanes," where only large budget productions will be able to fly these legally.
Surely this could change his mind
Without knowing more of your needs it's hard to give you a perfect recommendation, but...
If you simply want footage that matches your 7D without any work in post you can't do better than sticking with Canon, of course (and I'd recommend the 5D3 over the mk2).
If you have something like an X-Rite Color Checker and you know your way around DaVinci Resolve or other advanced color grading software then you can match any camera with a little work (and FCPX does a decent job with a couple clicks). If this is the case, I'd go with something besides a Canon since you said dynamic range is important to you. Depending on your budget: pick between a Sony A7s (I or II) or a6300. They all have at least 2 stops more than the 5D and more detail!
