Agreed, this is not an ''indie'', at least by ordinary standards. It has Zoey Deutch and was shot on an Arri. To be honest, it's not small and not something any ''indie'' fillmmaker can just go and do... Great article nonetheless, but really also not true to the headline in many ways, this thing cost some investors money :)
I used to do a lot of everything on a film, DP it, Sound rec it, make up etc but lately I've left a lot of it to people more capable and experienced. However, the one I still do is editing. Not only out of necessity which most indie filmmakers do, but also because of the hassle of going back and forth with another editor. Though is you do have a studio budget and an editing booth given to you, of course everybody should work with a much experienced editor.
Hitfilm, maybe you can try to learn Lightworks, it's free but very complicated. They used it on Wolf of Wall Street.
A recorder is very much needed, maybe get a Zoom and Rode NTG-2 or Go. Great deals on Ebay.
I have to say, people should't fear anything. Trump's win represents the will of the people, it's a sign of change, a need to go back to a much different time, if you ask me a much more orderly one. It might be what's really good for the West, you don't know yet, give it some time. On the side of filmmaking, you're always going to have freedom of speech. We'll always be allowed to tell the story you want.
Great filmmaker, he's only one of a few of his kind, still sticking to his guns.
