Hi, im a filmmaker who started out with my 550d during the DSLR revolution. With my wife we shoot (photography and film) a lot of weddings. Besides that I do some commercials/promo's and personal work. Our focus is always on storytelling. I would love to move to short film / documentary / feature film.
First of all, my compliments for making a movie, that is not easy, even if you have all the money of the world. Just ask J.J. Abrams ;).
Secondly, great that you did it for such a low budget, I applaud you for it, just go out there and shoot a story.
I can't comment on stuff outside of the trailer, but that certainly lacks. It does not look as good as a Hollywood movie, or an typical indie movie, far from it. It's a nice first attempt (cinematography wise). Not saying that I could do a lot better, but it shows that it's not shot on great camera's (but your point on old digital cameras is valid), but much more, it lacks great use of light. The A7s II is nice to use in low light situations, but you still need to use lights to make the image more interesting.
Also great that you tried to do every job, it will certainly help you in the future, but filmmaking is all about collaboration. Your wife did not do a bad job colorgrading, but she didnt do a great job either, and that shows. I'm sure the same can be said about audio/music and a lot of other stuff. It is ok that you did not have the money, but don't pretend that these things don't matter.
And also don't be too cocky, being humble comes a long way if your asking people for help. If this article would have another tone, of someone who is aspiring to make great movies, but does not have the money to pay for a lot of it, and tried his absolute best given the circumstances, I would not have hesitated and supported you for 10 bucks. Now I only wanted to spend my energy writing this.
Too bad. Hope you can turn this around and get some valuable insight from all the comments and learn from it.
What are you waiting for?
Good luck! ;)
How is that ok, it still lacks good full frame 4K at 60p. Codecs could be better as well, and nothing about 10-bit.
I see this hardly as an upgrade over the A7 III.
I find nofilmschool weirdly positive about this mediocre camera (I mean its great for stills, but for video not so much). There are better cameras out there for much less.
he's asking for a locking input
Interesting to see the rise of documentary, but also the sharp decline in recent years. About comedy, I feel like the last few years there are not that many big budget comedy's that really make me laugh. I loved the prime time of Jim Carrey, but also Will Ferrell. Maybe not the highest rated comedy's, but funny enough for me.
Yes, I completely agree. I don't see why you need to be so upset about it as a man. As a father for me it's completely normal to tell my sons to treat girls with respect.
What Terry Crews says: men need to hold other men accountable. What the hell is wrong with that.
I get that its a bit over the top, and the sentence 'some are already doing that' is annoying, I think most of us are.
That it's a corporation doing this does not bother me at all, why not. I would have problems with corporations sponsoring politics, but if they want to use their own advertising money to get a message out there, thats their right. I would welcome this stuff more than the average shampoo commercial.
In the Netherlands we had a bit of an opposite campagin by the way, that I liked as well, it's actually the boys will be boys theme, but than glorified, let we be our boys boy enough. (it was a campaign against letting them only play inside, only enforcing rules and being scared for experimenting, had nothing to do with their sexuality): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BVh9Sr_aQs
You don't need to necessarily agree with something 100% to enjoy it. I feel the world is getting so polarised over every issue. Maybe I want to be pro woman, pro gay rights, anti abortion, pro climate and anti gender neutral toilets. Don't put me in a box ;)
Hey man, I thought I'd look into your history on this website, and I think 90% of your comments is so very negative. Try to view things a in a more positive way and lighten up a little. You might say that 60% of the films is a waste of time and resources, but who are you to judge. I knew after 10 seconds of seeing this trailer that it was worthwhile and an impressive achievement.
