Hmmm...we're really talking about good storytelling and that starts with a terrific script. Don't forget that. The other way to develop your skills at telling a great story through cinema is by practice. Make a bunch of short films. One every weekend for a bit. You'll be surprised how you develop your 'chops' this way. Remember: No fancy tricks or techniques will ever replace a good story.
