I am trying to check on the legitimacy of From The Heart Productions. I am considering them as a fiscal sponsor but several red flags have been raised. I'm looking to speak with someone who worked with them for fiscal sponsorship, for an honest "peer review". I've been scammed and lost big money in this industry already. I'm well aware that in order to get grants, many grants require you be backed by a 501 c non profit organization. It was through filing out form after form on these grant sites that I was led to From The Heart Productions. Upon trying to find out how credible they are and how honest they are, how they actually work with the filmmakers (I want to hear it from the filmmakers perspective!) and I only seem to be able to find this one article. No one I've asked has heard of Carole Dean. I'm weary of anyone who says "Give me money so I can help you raise money." I received an email about how they are eager to help me with my very important documentary film but before they will even talk to me I have to sign a contract and pay a $60 processing fee and then after that I can get one free consultation. What? One free consultation? How much is it going to cost me (underlying fees) just to have them help me raise funds? I don't need someone to tell me how to pitch or write proposals, I am against crowdfunding, what I need is finishing funds for post production. This isn't my first film, I'm not fresh out of film school - and it sounds like all she can offer me is me to pay someone to tell me what I already paid $50,000 in student loans for years ago and have been learning myself in the real world ever since. I just didn't have a daddy in the business or all those connections. Is there anyone who used the From the Heart Productions as a fiscal sponsor who can talk to me, filmmaker to filmmaker and tell me the pros and cons to going with them? That's what I can't seem to find and it makes me question their credibility. But because I tend to trust the No Film School blog - I don't know. Do you trust this company? Why? What do you have to go on? I have to be cautious after being burned and scammed. If it's asking for money to "help" a very "important" project - and she's rich, while I struggle to put food on the table? That doesn't sit right with me.
