I hate the new standard to stretch all movies! Come on! If you have material and resources for a long past 2 hours story; make a series! Or miniseries! The history of filmmaking has changed with the great series of the last decade. They are as good, and better, than many movies.
Roma, whatever was politically oriented or not, does not deserve an award. A very boring film. Sure you can make a movie about the life of a cleaning lady or servant that ENTERTAIN, and that doesn’t mean it has to be light. Many recent movies are little original and boring, boring, boring…
Let me suggest two points that post-apocalyptic plots forget; no industry means no modern medicine, so life expectancy back to old times at 45 years old. And infant deaths at 50% The other is those beautiful shots of abandoned cities…see the first fire without fireman to stop it, no beautiful shots but cities and neighborhoods reduced to ashes. Perhaps The Road is the most realistic and terrifying. Another option is going back to the Middle Ages.
The trailer looks straight copy of the dark series Carnivàle
Very good insight into Hollywood astronaut visions! Sticking to reality is not a disadvantage in visuals. Writers and Directors go the easy way many times.
An specific film about climate change is The day after tomorrow. It could be better but is a Roland Emmerich disaster movie. He made a good try. This one has some good parts but others too silly. I find many of the satirical parts fake. The best movie ever in this genere is Dr.Strangelove. If you watch it again, I suggest you do; you see that the satirical parts are not so exaggerated. What a masterpiece!
