Josh White
Director of Photography
Graduating in 2007 with a 1st in Practical Cinematography, Josh learnt the basics of film making and the techniques needed to shoot on both film and digital formats. Since then Josh started his career and built his knowledge and experience shooting online promotional videos, whilst continuing to shoot short narrative films.
A large majority of Josh’s current work includes branded content films for brands like: Vodafone, Babyliss, La Roche Posay, McDonalds, Lufthansa, L’Uomo Vogue and Nivea and many creative short films for new and experienced directors.
Josh continues to pursue the career he loves as a cinematographer and is currently in production on his 4th feature film.
Hollywood is a machine to make films for money, Deakins is an artist who doesn't like to be manipulated by said machine. The fact he wanted to be involved in all of the scenes, including shots usually set-aside for 2nd Unit is great, shows he wan'ts to be in control over the whole look of the film. Truly one of the greats.
Great article on everything you need to know here. Valuable read.
Try Hurlbut Academy, free cinematography course at the moment from great DP Shane Hurlbut.
What's your budget and what mount are those lenses? The Sony A7SII is good, I'm a big fan of the compact Panasonic GH5s and the full frame S1H both have 10bit internal, which may not be necessary as it's "found footage", but might hold up a bit better if pushed in post for a theatrical release.
Jon Collins did a great article on how to actually use a tripod like a professional. https://ukjoncollins.com/video-editor-blog/post/getting-to-grips-with-gr...
