Serious question... Why would someone buy this when you can buy an Atomos Ninja Blade for the same price which is a display and a recorder?
I bought an Epic-W and was really not looking forward to the 8K because of the crazy workflow. As it turns out, the workflow is extremely easy and the image is absolutely unreal!! Just because its an 8K camera, it doesn't mean you have to shoot in 8K. You can still shoot in 6K and maintain a great field of view. You can also shoot in 8K-4K ProRes in-camera making editing a breeze. The reason people shoot with RED is because we like the image, and its more affordable than an Alexa. I think 8K is way ahead of its time, but for people who do own an 8K camera, they are pretty much "future proofed" for years to come.
Shame these lenses will only be available in E-Mount and will never become available in any other mounts. If they made an EF I would buy them no doubt. I don't know how many Sony users are gonna drop this much cash on a lens that can't be used on any other cameras.
Earlier today I was comparing the prices between these cine-zooms and the stills versions. The cine versions are $3,000 more!! They are the exact same lenses optically but with a different housing, and they are actually up charging $3K for that. Incredible...
LOL me too... Uhh, It actually kinda does matter if it's parfocal or not.
I don't know much about the Vaicam, but does it shoot RAW? I know it shoots RAW-to-codec but can you shoot straight RAW? Also, the memory cards are almost the same price as Redmags.
