Yes, DCP is a very real thing.
DCP-o-matic is an option, even Adobe Media Encoder has an option you can use (although you'll probably need a paid odd on) but more often, you get caught up in the details....DCPs are tricky.
Have you gotten the DCP specs from the theater/festival? Like any deliverables, you NEED to have the EXACT specs - you can't guess....nor can you expect one DCP to work for every end outlet.
Yarp.
Friday-Thursday this year.
Aside from meetings and booths:
BCPC / PostChat Meetup (Sunday)
Key Code party at Kilted Kilt (Monday)
Supermeet (Tuesday)
Gotta skip Media Motion Ball, AJA, and Blackmagic Parties due to client dinners.
Unsure when the Adobe party is.
Here is a decent list: http://www.broadcastbeat.com/2017-nabshow-party-list/
Do you have it connected via Firewire and are you using the capture tool in Avid?
It's always best to go with a system that Avid sanctions/endorses. It also helps when you don't want to build a system.
Avid maintains a list of Mac and PC configs here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/en422411
Click on "Windows Current CPU Specifications" or "Mac Current Specifications".

The old standby is that 10,000 hours of "deliberate practice" on anything makes you an "Expert"...e.g. 20 hours for 50 weeks a year for ten years = 10,000 hours.
Senior or Master are subjective terms.
Of course, this is the subject of lots of debate, but I use it as a ballpark.
In fact, here is a quick summary of (free) seminars and such I'll be doing at NAB 2017:
