I would just like to clarify the difference between a "wide angle shot" and most of the shots in these videos, which are actually medium or long shots, aka - long focal length shots taken from far away. Also almost all of these are shot in anamorphic so even if this shot is a 50mm which is by no means "wide angle" it will have a ton of left to right information. I agree it works well, but don't go throwing on a 16mm Canon lens and expect results like most of these.
He brings up some decent points but many of the films he shows (Hero, Amélie, Grand Budapest Hotel) are incredible because of their set design and costume design and not known for their color correction. Color is powerful but agree with posts below that it is just one thing cinematographers can use to tell stories.
