I remember seeing a hitman short years ago that had wall-to-wall fincher-esque music. There were a lot of great looking sequences that would have been awesome had silence/sound design been the driver. In that case, music takes a good project and flattens it into mush.

Tradeoffs if you want the image. That's not to say its the right tradeoff to make all the time, and its good to know what you are giving up to get what you what you want.
