Firstly... and I don't know why I'm bothering to even comment on this, but why are most of the comments here concerned about codecs of resolution etc.
The big picture here is WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT TO SHOOT WITH A F$#%ING PHONE no matter what wanky logo is on it (clenched fists held toward the sky).
Secondly how long will apple allow red's raven to be sold in their stores when red start offering android phones? You think apple are not going to eventually realise that promoting reds brand awareness by having a camera on display in their store wont make people curious and want to look at the red website and in the process see an alternative to an iPhone? They wouldn't loose many iPhone sales but I bet they loose more than what they would have made in whatever they get out of Raven sales.
Professionals place their focus on the day right where they want it and never want it anywhere but there.
Lytro got caught up in the "can we do this" I think, rather than look into if people actually want it. Load any movie or TV show and try and find a shot that you think the director or cameraperson might like to change the focus at a later date???
Its not worth the expense, size and data management. Perhaps there might be some very niche use for it somewhere but I've never shot anything that I've later wished I had focused on something else in the frame.
SPOILER ALERT The aliens. They should be able to communicate with humans since they came from the future where we are friends.
Asking this without giving anything away, but .... At the end when we learn what we learn, why can't they understand humans??
Considering what they should know.
I'd like to add that as entertaining as West Wing was, its politically a cartoon. Sorkin is likely politically illiterate.
NEVER use a microfiber cloth.
Use lens tissues. They are cheap and you throw the tissue away after each use. You use a cloth and get a speck of grit or something on it and from that day onwards that speck is damaging everything it touches.
