I have just noticed this: in the third paragraph you mention Freud's theory of the uncanny and go on describing it as chillingly unfamiliar. Although the uncanny has a lot to do with horror (Stanley Kubrick discussed Freud's text several times with his co-author Diane Johnson) it describes things that are chillingly familiar, yet somehow estranged to us.
