I'm excited. Garland is my favourite sci-fi writer and director nowadays. Make sure you don't mis his series DEVS if you like cerebral sci-fi.
It's just a style that people do because it's new, it's something you couldn't do before. It will go out of fashion when it's annoying too many people. By the way the Cruella criticism seems unfounded. It is a well shot film, that scene is supposed to be unlit night - it's not going for the standard stylised Hollywood look, it's going for a more modern flat look. I happen to like it.
Great debate and article. Looking forward to seeing the film. Thanks
That was one of the scariest short films I've ever seen. Well done.
The opening flashback is good, the CGI at a point where occasionally it feels real (although the sound design is over-hyped).
In the present day I'm already taken out of the story by improbabilities such as not being able to hit a slow-moving T-Rex from a nearby helicopter? Then we are supposed to believe they just lost it? How? Sloppy directing.
I desperately want these films to be good but increasingly they are not.
And I would disagree with point 4. I would never change my shutter speed in a scene. I think it looks bad. Adjust exposure with ISO, ND and aperture.
